This 1909-11 T206 Fred Payne has been graded SGC 1 PR and carries a Piedmont back. Issued in cigarette packs by the American Tobacco Company, the T206 set is one of the most widely collected pre-war baseball issues and the centerpiece of many vintage collections. At SGC 1 PR, it shows the honest wear expected of a card that circulated more than a century ago, while the original front image remains intact for set builders working toward completion.
Fred Payne was one of the hundreds of players chosen for the T206 set during the Deadball Era, a period defined by pitching, bunting, and aggressive baserunning. Every subject is needed to complete the full set, which makes cards of lesser-known players like Payne essential for serious set builders.
